Together, these areas offer a wide network of formed tracks across a large riding area.

Rules and appropriate use

Weedons Forest covers 200Ha of commercial pine forest between Weedons Ross Road and the Willows.

The forest is managed commercially, with income helping to offset the costs of river protection works. It forms part of Environment Canterbury’s river protection network.

Trail bikes are only permitted within the designated fenced riding areas.

Please note:

  • Only registered and road‑legal bikes may be used on river berms and park roads in unfenced or public park areas
  • Within the fenced trail bike areas, riders must stick to formed tracks and ramps
  • Riding up the sides of groynes or stopbanks is not permitted
  • Rider etiquette signage is in place throughout the area

Safety and track conditions

Conditions at Weedons Forest can change, and closures may occur:

  • Fire risk is the biggest safety concern. Tracks may be closed during high fire danger periods
  • Flooding can affect access, particularly on tracks between Weedons Ross Road and Haul Road when river levels are high

🚧 You may encounter forestry workers and vehicles in the area — please follow any signage and detour instructions.

Before you go

Before heading out, we recommend:

  • Checking current conditions and any access restrictions
  • Signing up to the mailing list for updates, as this is the primary way riders are notified about track closures due to fire risk or flooding
  • Following all signage and rider etiquette while onsite
