Love Our Lakes and be in to win!

If you are heading to enjoy our lakes this long weekend, snap a photo of your favourite lakeside spot and enter our Love our Lakes photo competition.

Picnic at the lakes in eco-friendly style if you're the lucky winner of a sustainable picnic prize, put together to picnic waste-free and look after our lakeside spots in the Waitaki area.

Be in to win

  • a beautiful picnic basket, hand woven in Morocco using palm fronds
  • a large ceramic deksel cup made by Rob Uivel in Ōhinehou/Lyttelton
  • tiffin tins (made from 100% foodgrade stainless steel)
  • reusable eco beeswax food wraps
  • reusable bamboo wipes

Love Our Lakes is to encourage recreational lake users to respect the environment, it is run by the locally-based Upper Waitaki Water Zone Committee, who focus on protecting water quality.

Simple things you can do to Love Our Lakes

Following these steps will reduce your impact on the water quality of our lakes and protect the native plants, animals and birds that live here as well.

    • bin any rubbish you have or take it with you
    • poo in a loo - remember to use the public toilets.
    • wash clothes or dishes away from the lake – detergents can impact water quality
    • take measures not to spread aquatic weeds (Check, Clean, Dry).

Terms and conditions

The competition consists of one prize draw. The prize is a woven basket, ceramic keep cup, tiffin tins, reusable bamboo wipes and beeswax wraps.

The competition is open to New Zealand residents over the age of 18.

One entry is permitted per person.

The prize draw is entered by commenting with a favourite lake on Environment Canterbury's Facebook post. The winner will be chosen at random. The competition closes at 12 noon on 10 February 2023.

The winners will be contacted by personal message on Facebook from the administrator of the Environment Canterbury Facebook page.

The prize cannot be converted into cash.

Acceptance of the prize is deemed consent for Environment Canterbury to use the winner’s details and any photographs on its digital channels.
