CRC222040 –to discharge agrichemicals into surface water, land where they may enter water to control exotic weed species.  This application seeks to replace CRC981580 and CRC041535.

CRC222041 –to discharge agrichemicals into the Coastal Marine Area to control exotic weed species.

CRC222043 – to discharge agrichemicals to air associated with the spraying within or adjacent to waterways for the control of exotic weeds.

The application is for resource consents (discharge permits) to replace expired resource consents CRC981580 and CRC041535, which allowed for the discharge of agrichemicals to all waterbodies in the Canterbury region (including those in registered Drainage Networks). The application is to discharge agrichemicals to air, land and water by spraying within and adjacent to

  • all rivers, streams, natural and artificial waterbodies (including drains) including their attached waterbodies, and
  • all riverine and estuary environments which fit within the RMA definition of the Coastal Marine Area,

within the Canterbury Region for the purpose of controlling exotic weeds in these waterways.

These applications seek the continued use of agrichemicals glyphosate, triclopyr and approved surfactants/adjuvants as allowed by CRC981580 and CRC041535. The application also seeks to allow for the evaluation and discharge of new agrichemicals that are approved by the Environmental Protection Authority (EPA) under the Hazardous Substances and New Organisms Act 1996 (HSNO) and are deemed by Canterbury Regional Council to be the most suitable, safe (environmentally and for human health) and effective for the intended purpose of exotic weed control in waterway environments. The application outlines proposed conditions for independently assessing any new HSNO-approved agrichemicals that could be discharged under these resource consents.

A duration of 20 years is sought for both consents.
