The Mackenzie District Council and Canterbury Regional Council have received applications from Far North Solar Farm Limited (the applicant) for resource consents to construct and operate a solar array over 670ha of land within the 968ha property at State Highway 8, Lake Benmore. The property is the land parcel bordered by the Tekapo and Pūkaki Rivers to the east, the Twizel River to the west, and the Ōhau River and Lake Benmore to the south.

The applicants have applied for the following resource consent from the Mackenzie District Council:

RM230057 – Construct and operate of a 420-megawatt peak (MWp) photovoltaic solar farm over an area of approximately 670ha. The proposed activity includes associated structures (medium voltage substations, inverters, main control room, SCADA data room and staff office), fencing, earthworks, access, internal tracks, the laying of underground cables and vegetation clearance.

The applicants have also applied for the following resource consents from the Canterbury Regional Council:

CRC240932 – To discharge operational-phase stormwater to land. This stormwater would be rainwater runoff from the solar panels, tracks, and other installations at the site, and would drain directly to land within the site.

CRC240933 - To discharge construction-phase stormwater to land. This stormwater would be generated from rainwater interacting with exposed areas of land during construction of the site, including upgrades to tracks and works to install the solar arrays.

Any person may make a written submission on any of the above applications.

Any submission not made online should be mailed to Environment Canterbury, PO Box 345 Christchurch 8140; or emailed to hearings@ecan.govt.nz;  A copy of the submission must also be sent to the Applicant at the address for service detailed above.

A submission should include your name, address and phone number and the applicants name and consent application number. A submission must state your reason for submitting, whether you support, oppose or have a neutral view on the applications; and if you wish to be heard in support of your submission.
