 The Canterbury Regional Council has received resource consent applications related to the proposed operation of an aggregate quarry and managed fill at Plantation Road, Hororata, legally described as Lot 1 DP459187, Lot 2 DP459187 and SO2584. The proposal is for an extension to an existing already-consented quarry and clean fill operation.

The applications are:

CRC201181 to discharge contaminants to air from the operation of a quarry and managed fill.

CRC201182 to discharge contaminants to land from deposited managed fill material.

CRC201808 to use land for the deposition of material over an unconfined or semi-confined aquifer.

The proposed quarry will involve the extraction of up to 75,000 cubic metres of aggregate per year and will include crushing and screening for a maximum of 800 hours per year.

 The proposed deposition of managed fill will include clean material, hard fill, contaminated soil (at contaminant concentrations not exceeding specified acceptance criteria), and sealed packages of asbestos-containing material. Filling will occur at a rate not exceeding 160 tonnes per hour.

 Up to 1,000 cubic metres of green waste (garden material) will be stored at the site of which some will be shredded. No composting is proposed.

 A consent duration of 35 years is sought for all applications.
