The applicant has applied for resource consents to disturb the bed of the Waiau River and to divert up to two cumecs of surface water from the mainstem of the Waiau River along a natural side channel to maintain reliability of supply for an existing irrigation take (see Figure 1).

The applicant is proposing to undertake maintenance to the entrance of the side channel throughout the duration of the consent The applicant already holds resource consents for the waterholes and irrigation takes.

The activity is proposed to occur at Leslie Hills Road, Waiau.

Location of works:

  • Diversion of water and disturbance of the bed: NZTM 2000 1586473mE 5272939mN

The following resource consents are being sought to facilitate the proposed activity:

  • CRC212078 – disturbance of the bed of the Waiau River at the diversion point;
  • CRC212079 – diversion of up to two cumecs of surface water from the mainstem of the Waiau River, along an existing side channel to increase reliability of supply of water for an existing irrigation take; and
  • CRC212384 – to discharge diverted water back to the mainstem of the Waiau River, and to temporarily discharge sediment and water to water.

An expiry date of 26 November 2038 has been proposed to align with existing consents for associated takes.
