New wallaby sighting tool goes live

Seen one? Say so!

The Wallaby geomap is live! This handy tool enables members of the public to report sightings of wallabies (dead or alive) while out in the bush. Users simply enter their contact information and pinpoint the exact GPS location of the sighting, which is then used to provide Environment Canterbury with real-time data on wallaby numbers and locations throughout the region.

Environment Canterbury uses the data to help eliminate small populations before they become established.

It’s another step forward in the effort to eradicate wallabies outside the containment area, as part of the Canterbury Pest Management Strategy.
