"Lock down" NOT "Lock up" is our motto here while we undergo some massive operational changes to the way we work - both for you and with you.

"Alert Level 4" and "stay at home" have become regular phrases around the house, but that doesn't mean that your local Environment Canterbury staff are out of action. As soon as the announcement was made on Monday, March 23 that the country would go into lockdown, we had everyone working hard to ensure we had the tools and capability to continue working while at home.

All our local Officers are contactable via their cell phones or through the customer services number (03 319 5781). We will all be abiding by the strict Level 4 criteria during the lockdown, so if you need something that means we would have to break those rules, it might have to wait.

As you may have guessed, all meetings, workshops, field trips have been postponed until further notice, but this doesn’t mean that the importance of environmental protection and enhancement has decreased. As we continue to do what we can with the resources we have, we ask you to do the same to continue the great work that’s been done so far in the environmental space. If you need some ideas on how to be green while at home or have some questions about the best way to go about things, don’t hesitate to give us a call.

In terms of our rules and regulations, they all stay the same. Land and Water Regional Protection rules have not changed, and you can still report any pollution events to 0800 765 588.

We are actively monitoring all local rivers, with Pete B doing his rounds, then feeding this information back to our river team in Christchurch.

Lastly, look after each other. Stay safe, stay connected and stay well.

Until next time, Kev
