Air quality is improving in towns and cities where we monitor particles and gases, however, air pollution still exceeds national health-based environmental standards, in most areas we monitor, particularly during winter.

We analyse air quality data to identify sources of air pollution and the relative significance of various contaminants.

We research what has worked in the past and use different modelling methods to:

  • predict air pollution concentrations in unmonitored areas
  • identify likely areas of high air pollution
  • estimate population exposure to contaminants
  • assess the likelihood of meeting regional, national and international air quality targets and guidelines
  • predict the likely effect of various airshed management options.

We often partner with Crown Research Institutes, universities and other research organisations for specific air quality studies.
