CRC224350 – to discharge contaminants from the passive discharge of contaminants from contaminated land into land at 27 Washbournes Road, Wigram, Christchurch, legally described as Lot 2 DP 40400.

The site has been used for galvanising metals since about 1980. Valmont Coatings (NZ) Limited bought the operations in 2018, undertook site investigations, including groundwater quality monitoring, and identified the requirement to apply for resource consent for the passive discharge of contaminants into land from historical metal treatment processes.

Contaminants identified in groundwater include zinc, arsenic, acidity, heat and PFOS (perfluorooctane sulphionate), PFOA (perfluorooctanoic acid) and PFHxS (perfluorohexane sulphonic acid).

Valmont Coatings (NZ) Limited has proposed a suite of conditions including ongoing groundwater quality monitoring and a mechanism to undertake remediation if concentrations of contaminants in groundwater increase

The applicant has requested a resource consent duration of 15 years.
