In this stage of the Enviroschools Action Learning Cycle (ALC), the reflection that follows action consolidates learning and raises new ideas that will begin the cycle again.
Reflect on change
Key learning questions
What are we reflecting on?
Go back to your Pest Storm Activity (PDF file, 452KB) and reflect on your initial understanding compared to your current understanding.
What went well? What didn't go well? What would we have done differently?
Use H Forms (PDF file, 370KB) to gather feedback on an activity or project, including what worked well, what could be improved, and what you would do differently next time.
What changes and benefits have come about because of our actions?
Identify and record the changes that have happened as a result of your actions.
- Consider how you could record changes – perhaps by comparing bird surveys before and after your changes? Are you catching fewer predators now compared to when you first started? Are native plants thriving where invasive weeds were once prolific?
- Record and share your findings in creative ways using photos, videos, artwork, displays, presentations or written reflections.
How will we share and celebrate?
- Share your learning at school assemblies, in newsletters, or at a special school community event.
- Every November, the Enviroschools team hosts an Enviroschools Celebration Event where your school can showcase your mahi (work) to Councillors, staff and other schools.
- If you’re interested in becoming an Enviroschool, email education@ecan.govt.nz
Where to from here?
Use the timeline in the Enviroschools Next Steps Activity (PDF file, 346KB) to reflect on what you have achieved and identify opportunities for future action.
What students will learn
Through these activities, students will:
- reflect on what they have learned during their pest inquiry
- evaluate the impact of their actions on biodiversity and their local environment
- identify successes, challenges and opportunities for improvement
- develop skills in reflection, evaluation and evidence-based decision making
- communicate and celebrate their learning with others
- identify future opportunities to take action and continue their environmental journey.
We would love to know about your pest control projects. Please email us your photos or let us know about your plans.
