- Abstraction
- Abstraction means the taking of water from a waterbody or the diverting of water outside of the bed of a river, lake or artificial watercourse
- Afforestation
- Is the process of planting large numbers of trees on land which has little or now trees currently on it
- Afforestation
- Afforestation is when new trees are planted in an area where there were no trees before
- Allocation limit
- Allocation limit is the total amount of water that is available for allocation over a specified period
- Alluvium
- Loose clay, silt, sand, or gravel that has been deposited by running water in a stream bed, on a floodplain, in an alluvial fan or beach
- Ambient air quality
- The air outside buildings and structures. This does not include indoor air, air in the workplace, or contaminated air discharged from a source
- Amenity values
- Those natural or physical qualities and characteristics of an area that contribute to people’s appreciation of its pleasantness, aesthetic coherence, and cultural and recreational attributes
- Aquifer
- A unit of rock or sediment which can yield a usable quantity of water (Ministry for the Environment definition adapted from https://data.mfe.govt.nz/layer/52675-location-and-extent-of-nzs-aquifers-2015/).
- Australia New Zealand Standard Industrial Classification
- Classifies industries based on their primary business activity, and is used to record and analyse industry statistics in New Zealand and Australia
