Briefings and workshops: Council or committee briefings and workshops held in the Council Chamber are open to the public. Check out the schedule for timing and topics (PDF file 15.2 KB). Presentations are available on request, email workshop@ecan.govt.nz.
Release of public excluded information: Most Council meetings are open to the public. However, under the Local Government Official Information and Meetings Act 1987, the public may be excluded from part of a meeting when discussing certain sensitive matters. Common reasons for withholding information include: protecting privacy; preserving the confidentiality of commercial negotiations or transactions; maintaining legal professional privilege; protecting information that was shared with Council in confidence.
Once the reason for confidentiality no longer applies, the information may become eligible for public release. Information can be released through a Council resolution or by approval of the Chief Executive and will be published on the Council website.
